For Unto you is born this day in the city of David, a Savior, which is Christ the Lord. So we talked about the identity of the Lord, the importance of that announcement, and how

these shepherds were the first ones to receive that

Christmas message that day. I preached a message yesterday to our church called responding to

Christmas. The first Christmas was prepared, obviously, but it was prepared by the Lord.

No human being knew it was coming. And yet, after it came, what was the response?

And so my question to you and me would be, what will our response be to the message of Christmas

this year? Are we going to share it? Is it going to change our priority? Is it going to affect us

the way it did these shepherds on that day? It's just a cool

thought. Now look at verse 12 of our text and so the promise has been made about the coming

Messiah. The Messiah is here, but look at verse 12. And this shall shall be a sign unto you ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes

lying in a manger interesting so the angel said to the shepherds now i'm going to give you a sign

remember the jews required a sign. They wanted

some kind of external validation that what God was saying was true. The Apostle Paul said that

about the Jewish people in 1st Corinthians chapter 1. The Jews require a sign. But the fact is that the angel speaking to them, the night sky that had been

lit up, I mean, was that not already assigned? I mean, were they not at that moment living a sign?

The fact that in the middle of the night, this angel had come. And in a moment, the multitude of the heavenly host is going to be there.

I mean, would that not be enough of a sign?
