Summary

Happy New Years Girlfriends! Today I share another popular episode from the Girlfriend’s archive: How to Find Out Your Gifts. The New Year is a great time to reassess and reflect on what unique gifts God has blessed you with, and how you can use them in the coming year. On a personal note, I’m in the midst of preparing for my son Ambrose’s wedding on January 3rd, so I’m taking another week off from my usual recording schedule. Please say a prayer for him and his fiancé as they get closer to their special day! _Snippet from the Show: Vocation is not WHAT you do—it’s who you are. _ There has been a lot of conversation recently about finding out your gifts, and I have been hearing from women who are seeking to know what their gifts are. They particularly want to know how God wants them to use their gifts in their lives. How do we do that? First of all, I think it’s important that we have these conversations in light of the idea of “vocation,” which is a counter-cultural concept. Some ways I recommend finding out what your gifts are include: 1) What are you good at? This one is obvious, but sometimes we don’t pay attention to our natural skills. What comes easy for you that is difficult for others? 2) What do others say? What do the people in your life tell you your gifts are? Ask them! 3) Pray about it. 4) Ask God what your gifts are, and the ways in which he wants you to use them in service to others. 5) Remember the idea of hidden talents. The gifts that God has given you might not be obvious and/or glamorous. Be open to the idea that your skills may be a hidden part of your service to God and others, rather than obvious “talents” that others readily appreciate. Finally, I answer a question from listener Karen who shares about her struggle with making fitness a regular part of her everyday routine. Thank you to those of you who have left iTunes reviews! If you haven’t already, please consider leaving Girlfriends a review, or sharing the podcast with friends or family might enjoy it. Thank you!

Hey, girlfriends, welcome to this new year episode of the Girlfriends Podcast. I'm so glad you're here. I'm so

0:06.4

glad you're joining me. Happy 2020. I am pre-recording this because, as I mentioned last week,

0:13.1

taking a little time off to celebrate the holidays with my family, also to celebrate my son's

0:19.3

wedding. So my son, Ambroseose is getting married January 3rd, 2020.

0:24.8

When I'm recording this, that is still a little ways away, and we're still in preparation mode.

0:28.6

But by the time you're listening to this, it's going to be very close indeed. So I want to ask for

0:34.4

your prayers for Ambrose and for his fiancé, Paulina.

0:39.0

Pray for a joyful wedding day, but then also just pray for them in their marriage.

0:43.3

So things are a little bit busy around here, not only with Christmas and New Year's, but preparation

0:48.8

for the wedding as well.

0:50.0

So as I mentioned last week, I am not going to leave you high and dry without an episode, but I'm going to take this opportunity to share some older episodes that have been popular.

1:00.4

So this week, I'm sharing with you an episode from a little over a year ago, maybe a year and a half ago, where I talked about how to find out your gifts.

1:09.3

And this came to me because it was sort of a

1:11.8

trendy topic at the time, but it's come back to me many times. And actually, I got feedback

1:15.2

recently from a few different listeners on this particular show, which brought it to mind.

1:20.0

Because this is something that we sometimes worry about, that we sometimes wonder about,

1:23.7

am I using all of my gifts? In what ways am I called to use my gifts? If I'm a stay-at-home mom,

1:28.4

does that mean I've just flushed all my gifts down the toilet? Or do I pursue my gifts at the expense

1:33.7

of my family? We always are kind of struggling with that kind of a balance. And I thought,

1:38.1

the new year is a wonderful opportunity to reassess things, reassess where we're spending our time

1:43.4

and what kinds of things we're going to focus on

1:45.8

and how we might decide what our gifts are and how God intends for us to use them. So I hope you will enjoy
