In medical school, you see a lot of gruesome pictures, but some stay with you, more than

others.

One that'll always haunt me is gas gangrene of the uterus.

It occurs when an anaerobic bacteria, usually claustridian perfringens, is introduced

into the soft tissue of the uterus, as it infects the organ it releases noxious gases that

bubble through it, killing it, and leaving it boggy, oversized, and putrid.
