Summary

In a risky move, a religious leader falls before Jesus to ask Him to come heal his sick daughter. This request sets off a chain of events in Mark 5:21-43 that will show Jesus’ power over sickness and death, His compassion upon everyone, and that we can trust Him to keep His promises through delays and interruptions, despite ridicule and risk, and in the most extreme circumstances.

If you recall, Jesus, you know, in chapter four, they went across the Sea of Galilee,

0:20.0

and then when they got to that other side, the eastern side of the Sea of Galilee, and then when they got to that other side, the eastern side of the

the people of Goddara cared more about pigs than people. And that's really a condition of today. You know, the pigs, something that they

0:40.9

shouldn't have had. It was kind of a symbol of their own sin. And they cared more about their

sin than having Jesus in their town. They actually prayed. We saw three prayers. The demons

prayed, hey, can we go to the pigs? Jesus said yes. The people said, we pray you to leave our country. And Jesus said, yes. And then we saw the demon-possessed guy who was healed sitting there in his right mind, he said, can I follow you and just be with you? And Jesus said, no. Interesting three prayers. We ended at last week seeing how sometimes, you know, the no is actually a huge blessing.

And this guy that was demon possessed and then healed by Jesus, he would go all over the

1:18.4

decapolis, the Decapolis, the Decapolis, ten cities, and declare what Jesus had done for him.

1:24.5

And that was one of the few people. Jesus said, nope, you can't follow me.

1:28.3

And don't keep this one a secret. Just go and tell everybody. Like, this is kind of cool.

1:32.8

You might call this demon-possessed guy we saw in verses 1 through 20, the first missionary,

1:39.7

the first one, sent out to, you know, go on the mission field and go and tell all the things of Jesus.

1:47.3

So kind of a cool, cool thing there, the first missionary to be sent.

1:51.7

We'll see the disciples being sent here next week probably, two by two.

1:56.4

We'll see that coming up here pretty soon.

1:58.6

But this is the first guy that really Jesus said, nope,

2:01.1

you can't go home to your friends. Tell them all the great things how the Lord has done for you

2:08.0

and how the Lord has had compassion on you. I love that. So Jesus now, he's going to make his way back.
