Jesus' ministry is underway. He's starting to minister to individual people here in Chapter 5,

and we're going to see that. In fact, there's four snapshots in this chapter, who he's going to

talk to and who he's going to minister to and what have you. And so let's take a look. The first

snapshot is one we looked at on Sunday,

where Jesus begins to call his laborers, the disciples,

at least Peter, James, and John in verses 1 through 11.

Let's take a look.

It says, and it came to pass that as the people pressed upon him to hear the word of God,

he stood by the lake Kenezzarit and saw two ships standing by the lake,

but the fishermen were gone out of them and were washing their nets.

Again, we looked at this on Sunday,

but one of the things that we didn't discuss as much was notice here in verse one,

it says they were wanting to hear the word of God.

Interesting that this phrase would be used,

hearing the word of God.

How do you know successful ministry? I believe it has to do with the word of God. Is the

word of God being heard? You know, many ideas out there about how to get people in church doors.

And especially right now, excuse me, as the church seems to be in a lot of ways failing and shrinking

in the world, but even here in America, people are saying,

well, what do we need to, what do we got to do to get people back into the church? And it's sad

to hear all the hypothesis that are out there. When the Bible, I think, makes it clear,

give attendance to the reading of scripture, Paul told Timothy. One of the things the church
