Summary

As He finishes praying in the Garden of Gethsemane, Jesus is betrayed, arrested, denied, mocked, and beaten. As we watch the story unfold in Luke 22:39-71, we see the significance of all that occurred, Jesus’ graciousness and longsuffering, and His response to their allegation that confirms He is the Son of God.

Luke, chapter 22 is where we left off last week, about halfway through the chapter.

It's a long chapter, but you can't rush through a chapter like this, that's for sure.

In the first half of this chapter, we saw the upper room and the institution of communion.

And, you know, Jesus would sing a hymn according to Mark 1426 and lead them in the Lord's

And then after the Lord's supper and the, you know, Judas being revealed as the one who would

betray them, portrayed Jesus, and Peter being told what was going to happen that very evening,

across the Keedron Valley to the Mount of Olives. And one of the things that I always

like to remind us, you know, as we did on Sunday is the symbology in the Bible and making

correlations and connections. I find it really fascinating. All the examples, you know, we have,

you know, especially when it comes to the cross of Jesus.

You know, we have Abraham there in Genesis 22, 8, where Abraham, you know, said, my God,

son, you know, he said, my God will provide himself a lamb there on the sacrificial altar that was

there on Mount Moriah, the very same mountain where Jesus would be crucified only thousands of years later.

Is that a coincidence that was the same place?

You know, the wilderness wandering.

We saw the snake on the brass pole, if you remember.

And Moses made that serpent of brass there in Numbers 21, and anybody that looked on, it lived.

serpents, these snakes, and they were dying. But if they looked to the snake on the pole, they'd live.
