One of the things I love about Ephesians is it gives us a sort of a settled, comforting word.

If you're discontented with life or upset with what's going on or the cards you've been dealt,

one of the things we need to remember is to go to the book

of Ephesians because it reminds us of so many of the real blessings and not the material

blessings as much, which you might say, well, those are the ones I want. But if you really think

about it, you want spiritual blessings more than you want physical material blessings. Trust me on that one.

In fact, you'll see what I mean as we get into this passage. It was Benjamin Franklin who said,

content makes poor men rich. Discontent makes rich men poor. And boy, I think he was right about

that one. Americans, are we content today?

Or are we more troubled than ever?

And it's funny, our economy, the stock market's been booming, breaking records.

You think, you know, with that but brought gas prices, yeah, but it's funny because

the consumer confidence is high. People are buying

stuff still and still driving around, even with the high gas prices. And, you know, the word on the

street is that those will go down again. We'll see about that. But our treasure is not supposed

to be on things of this earth, but things above.

And Paul reminded Timothy and 1 Timothy 617, charge them that are rich in this world,

that they be not high-minded.

Oops, that's part of our problem in America, isn't it?

We're rich in this world and we're high-minded, but also nor are they to trust in uncertain riches,

but in the living God who giveth us richly all things to enjoy.

God is the one who gives you and me richly everything to enjoy, the stuff that matters.
