1 Corinthians chapter 6 is where we are in our study now we begin this first section of chapter 6

really chapter 6 has two sections and the first section is paul's instructions regarding

lawsuits among christians this is an interesting one and i almost wonder if this is a very local problem in the Corinthian church.

In fact, there was a Greek playwright Aristophanes.

He has in one of his plays, he has characters look at a map at where Greece is located.

When it was pointed out to him, he replied that there must be some

mistake because he cannot see any lawsuits going on. That was actually in an old ancient Greek

play. And the reason is because lawsuits were a really big deal. Today in the United States,

United States, we are getting a similar reputation. Over 200,000 civil suits were filed in the

federal courts in one recent 12-month period. Nearly one million lawyers were involved. Their number is

increasing, and they're handling them. In one year, more than 12 million suits were filed in the

U.S. state courts. Interesting note in the United States, one in 240 people in America are lawyers.

In Japan, since our president was just there, making deals and stuff, one in 5,800 people are

lawyers.

So the ratio of lawyers and stuff, interesting.

But Paul's going to see that the Corinthian church has a

problem. And it's the fact that not only there are lawsuits in general, but there were lawsuits

among the Christian church. And I think you might say, well, Brad, is that really a problem that

we wrestle with today? We'll all answer emphatically. yes. We see a problem.

But maybe the problem is even more today

in that we don't do what Paul tells us to do about that.

We just do the opposite.
