Summary

Why negative feedback in business is an opportunity to grow

Shaky hands, nervous stomach, no appetite, mind racing, tears, anger – those are just aĀ fewĀ of the feelings that I used to get when I received negative feedback in business. I specifically remember the first time I got negative TpT feedback. I thought it was going to be the end of my world. I was walking my 8th graders to the lunchroom. My phone was in my back pocket. Ping! I received a new email (this was back before the TpT app, mind you…). So I opened up the email and there it was: negative customer feedback on MY PRODUCT. Ouch. I was devastated. I couldn't eat. And then…I got mad. Can you relate? Have you ever done this before? Y'all, I have sooooooooo been there. This is how IĀ usedĀ to approach negative feedback in business. Thankfully, I've made a few changes…

How to handle negative feedback from customers & why it's important

Over the last few years, I've worked very hard to adopt a new belief system that helps me respond to negative customer feedback in a positive way. And I'm happy to report that I feel absolutely none of those feelings mentioned above when I receive negative feedback on my business or products. That's why today I'm sharing some actionable steps that you can take to release the anxiety and use negative feedback as a way to improve your overall business. These steps will also help you become happier as the creator and designer you were born to be. Ready to learn how to respond to negative feedback in business in a positive light once and for all? Then put on your favorite sunglasses, press play, and prepare to change your perspective…

In this episode, you will learn:

  • How to handle negative customer feedback
  • How to respond to negative customer feedback
  • How to take yourself and your feelings out of the equation to see negative customer feedback as a positive
  • How to separate the negative feedback of your business from a personal attack (remember, you can't please everyone and sometimes people just won't get what you're doing)
  • That negative feedback in business is the best and most essential part of your job because without it you'd never grow

Hey, CEO teachers, let's start with a few quotes. First is by Bill Gates. Your most unhappy customers

are your greatest source of learning. And the next one is by Robin Sharma. He says negative

0:14.1

feedback can make us bitter or better. If you're ever looking for a great read, check out

anything by Robin Sharma. He is so deep,

0:23.5

but I can't even lie. I love it. He gave one of the most profound interviews I've ever heard in my life

0:29.1

on Lewis Howells, The School of Greatness podcast. It's one of those where you have to stop it,

0:34.5

rewind it, clap, say amen, rewind it again, and re-listen. It's that good. And I'm in

0:41.6

all of someone that can speak on demand about such deep topics. That's when you know his teachings

0:47.5

are real. They are so ingrained in him. I truly admire it. I'll leave some Robin Sharma goodness

in the show notes. If you're interested in

that link for you as well and share all the good stuff that I have been reading. Now, stick

around. Today's show is all about thriving after negative feedback. Teachers take negative

1:24.1

feedback to heart. They cannot seem to move past it. It's a really big struggle. And we don't

1:30.4

allow negative feedback inside of our communities. And oftentimes teachers will screenshot it and then

1:36.3

post it in a community. I can't tell you how many times I've seen that in some of the other groups.

1:40.7

So we, if we see that, we make sure we tell them don't do that. We delete it

1:44.3

immediately. And then we just ask them to express their feelings. So if you said, hey, I got negative

feedback and here's how I feel about it, then we can work with that, but just taking a screenshot
