And today we're going to be traveling back in time to 1998, which I cannot believe was 20 years ago. I am

starting to feel increasingly old as we do this show. I guess I sort of now get a sense of how

Troy felt when he started the show. But I think this is a year that Rowan, you had a lot to say about because I think one of the general, like, party lines when it comes to 1998 is it's like one of the most pivotal years in games history.

It's a banner year for strategy games.

But it sounds like maybe you're not quite as high on it.

Well, one of the things about 1998 is that three of the biggest games of this year are games

that I don't like the term overrated, but that's probably the simplest way that I can

say that about them. And it's still a fantastic year for games.

It's not so great for strategy games.

There's some real gems and absolute classics.

But in terms of its reputation, it's pretty well-deserved.

I think there are a few other years.

Like even 93, we had this discussion last time.

It might be a little bit better.

But it's really hard to go wrong with this one, especially in RPGs, which are my other genre.

This is a very strong case for the best year ever for them.

Yeah, it's a hell of a year.
