Summary

Rob and Bruce wrap up this year's winter of wargaming by looking back at some of the games they played and some of the trends they've seen in the wargame space. From boutique games to the pros and cons of computer wargaming, they cover a wide array of topics on their favorite hobby. Does a narrow scope limit a game's design or does it open up new possibilities? How well can you really simulate a given scenario?

Hello to all of the gamers.

0:15.1

So today we're going to be talking about war games a little more generally than we've been discussing them

0:21.6

these past couple months. In particular, we're going to be talking about specificity in war game

in the ever-growing stack of games we meant to play during that weekend. You know, the ones I think

0:53.3

that we gravitated to most strongly tended to be very specific

0:58.0

to a given topic.

1:01.0

1:11.9

about tactical movement, they tended to be maybe a little more customized to a very particular

1:17.9

type of, of contest, military contest, or in the case of Churchill, military political.

1:25.3

And we tended to steer away from maybe a little more of your classic,

1:30.4

what is sometimes called the beer and pretzels war game.

1:33.4

And I have found that that's kind of the direction my tastes are running overall.

1:39.4

And one thing I've been trying to sort of tease apart is whether I've just gotten a little

1:49.0

burned out on the classic style of war game and am gravitating towards these more specific

1:55.3

types of games, or if there's something deeper going on here that's leaving me unsatisfied by these tactical systems.
