Summary

This week is a full house with Rob, Troy, Tom, and Fraser all weighing in on Eugen Systems' Act of Aggression. Tom stands alone as the half-hearted bastion of defense for a game that underwhelmed the panel. An unintuitive UI, questionable ethnic portrayals, and general crappiness had Fraser "so angry he punched a child", a deed which is now forever rendered in text.

Hello, everyone. We also welcome freelance writer Fraser Brown. Hello. And finally, we have quarter to three's Tom Check. If anyone needs a coffee, I will get you guys a coffee except for Fraser. Fraser, I'm only getting you a tea because I understand that's what you people like.

0:23.7

And we drink whiskey, not tea. You people, I know, you people.

Oh, so racist already. We're going to get banned from the internet.

At least I'm not making fun of the kind of food he makes at his country. Like, I could have done that or made a dental reference or something.

0:37.4

Or a goat reference, which frankly would have been accurate. This is really brutal. Yeah, it's powerful. Fraser, it's just going to get worse, by the way. Yeah. Can we not victimize the game instead of me? Yeah, we need something to beat up on that we'll fight back. So let's talk about active aggression.

We've all spent the last couple of weeks coming to grips with a game that I think many of us were actually eagerly awaiting.

1:01.7

It's a new real-time strategy game from Eugent Systems called Active Aggression.

1:06.6

And Tom, I wanted to start with you here a little bit because I think we use some stage setting, because there are two reference points that I've seen associated with this game, and that is Command and Conqueror's General and Act of War. And I don't think we've discussed either of those games a great deal on three moves ahead. So what is active aggression taking from each of those? Why do those keep coming up in relation to this game? First of all, I want to say you're kind of the Charlie Rose of podcasts when you introduce it as Command and Conquers General. Like, it's like, it's Command and Conquer Generals. You sound like a guy who hasn't played this a million times, Rob. What's the matter with you? I think you misheard me.

1:45.6

I'm pretty sure I did say generals.

1:48.7

Skype is playing tricks, which is why we have... Yeah, fine.

1:49.2

We'll play back the tape.

We'll see who followed.

with this game, and that is Command and Conquers General and Act of War.

2:06.0

At any rate, no, those are both too great.

2:09.1

You know what, could you repeat the question?

2:10.5

I've completely derailed the podcast already.

2:12.6

I suck.

2:13.3

Sorry.

Okay.
