Shortly after the recording of this podcast, we learned about the sudden and unfortunate death

of John Hill, designer of the original squad leader. John was a truly original designer and had a

tremendous influence on the hobby, but what I'll always remember is that his games gave me and my

friends hundreds of hours of gaming camaraderie and enjoyment. We celebrate his contributions

to the hobby and send condolences to his

Tonight, we have one of our original panelists, the great Julian Murdoch. I'm so excited for this

episode. I'm nearly exploding with glee.

Well, I am too, and the reason for that is that tonight we have Jeff Hallett and Dave Kleinschmidt of the Advanced Squad Leader, or should we say ASL podcast, the two half squads.

We're very happy to be here. You're the only people in the world interested in talking to us.

I disbelieve. This is, no, I think we're more excited. So the topic tonight for our listeners is going to be ASL, and that's not American Sign Language, that's Advanced Squad Leader. We all have been

playing, well, gosh, how long have we been playing? Jeff and Dave, how long have you guys been

at this? I think 1985. Which is when the game came out, isn't it? You're right, yes. I didn't do

the original squad leader, just the advanced, right into the hard stuff.

And I have only been playing for seven years.

It's just, like seven years this month was the first time, and the first time I played was when I went over to Dave's house.

He was having one of his club meetings, And I wrote him an email and said,

can I come over and watch? Because I was too afraid to think that I could even play this.

Can I come and watch and maybe and then like leave quietly? He said, no, come on in. Come on over and play.
