listener Shack has asked me for my three book recommendations, my top three books for folks at the start

of their personal finance journey. It's a great question, Shaq, and more difficult to answer

than I thought it might be, but I think I've come up with my top

three and that's what we're going to talk about today.

So let's put five minutes on the clock down here.

The first is this one, The Automatic Millionaire by David Bach

and it's one of the first personal finance books that I read

after hearing an interview with David Bach on a training course that I was on.

Now if you ever hear me talk on meaningful money about paying yourself first,

that whole principle comes from this book.

In the opening chapter, David Bach, who is or was a practicing

financial advisor in the US, he tells a story of a couple who came to his office,

they rolled up in a fairly ordinary car, they didn't look or dress anything special,

and they wanted to talk to him about retiring.

And in his mind, he'd already dismissed them as probably not being able to afford his services or have enough

money to meet his minimum investment levels.

But it turned out they were extremely wealthy and the conversation that he had with them is basically unpacked throughout the rest of the book.

And David Bach distills it down to paying yourself first and then shares about how to do that.
