Hello and welcome to another episode in our continuing series honoring the great Robert Redford, who we lost a few days ago.

0:14.8

My name is Steve Morris. I'm a filmmaker and directing instructor in Los Angeles, California.

0:18.4

Hello, everyone. My name is John Roker. I'm a writer, producer, and voiceover artist here in

0:21.9

San Diego, California.

0:22.9

And we did three days of the Condor fairly early in the run of the cinefiles with our very

0:29.1

special guests, Stephen B. Jones, who I think the whole thing started when he sent me,

0:33.8

we talked to him about coming on the show, and he sent me a list of 130 movies

0:40.1

that he would be interested in doing. And I went, hey, maybe we could pair this down a bit,

0:45.5

and we paired it down to Sidney Pollock and Robert Redford. And then I think in preparation,

0:50.6

Steve watched every single Sidney Pollock movie to make sure that he was ready to come on the Cinephiles. That's an amazing. I don't think any guest has ever done that. No. And that's pretty amazing of Steve. And the kind of respect he had for our show. You know, we were still kind of starting out. Well, I think it forced us to up our game. Yes. I mean, like, you know, this was when we were kind of starting to expand into the longer format.

1:13.6

And three days of the Condor was a. it forced us to up our game. Yes. I mean, like, you know, this was when we were kind of starting to expand into the longer format.

1:13.3

And three days of the Condor was a perfect film for that because it is such a 70s movie with so much ambiguity and so much stress.

1:21.4

And man, Robert Redford plays a fascinating character in it. Yeah, I think this is an amazing performance because I think this is,

1:29.7

isn't this right after the sting? So this is Robert like going out on his own right now. I don't

1:34.9

have Paul Newman to carry the film. Well, they like, look, Fay Dunaway is an amazing actress and

1:39.2

every bed as powerful as Paul in her own way. But this is very much a Robert Redford movie. He is the guy who

1:46.4

has all this stuff happened to him. He's the guy that has to troubleshoot situations, figure

1:50.2

things out, roll with the punches, try to expose what's going on here at the risk of his own life.

1:56.4

And he's been thrust into this situation without his like knowledge or know-how.

2:01.9

And he has to put it all together.

2:04.4

And he has to cross some lines.

2:06.4

I think it's a very brave performance and a very brave film because a lot of people
