| 0:12.0 | John Hooper was born in 1495 in Somerset, England. |
| 0:18.0 | He went on to study at the University of Cambridge |
| 0:22.0 | and he received his bachelor's degree, then we're not sure |
| 0:25.8 | what quite happened to him. |
| 0:27.9 | He probably came under the influence of the Reformation in Germany, and for his own sake stayed off the radar. |
| 0:37.5 | We know he shows up at Oxford and in 1539, and this is after Henry signs the act of supremacy, which was signed into effect in 1534, |
| 0:48.7 | thus expelling Catholicism from Britain and establishing the Church of England or Anglicanism. |
| 0:56.1 | But even then in those early years of Henry VIII, Henry was not entirely friendly with |
| 1:02.4 | the Reformers on the continent. |
| 1:05.0 | And of course Bishop Cooper was very friendly with the reformers on the continent. |
| 1:11.1 | And he found himself in difficult moments with the king. So he |
| 1:16.4 | leaves England and he heads to France and there he remained with the Huguenots and |
| 1:21.3 | studied alongside of them. |
| 1:23.3 | We also know that he made his way to Switzerland, |
| 1:25.6 | and there he befriended Heinrich or Henry Bollinger. |
| 1:29.6 | Bollinger was the successor of Zwingley there in Zurich and was very much an influence on Bishop Hooper. |
| 1:37.0 | Well when Edward the 6th ascended to the throne, Hooper left Switzerland and returned to his beloved England. |
| 1:45.3 | He immediately went after those bishops that were not thoroughly committed to the Reformation |
| 1:51.1 | and he chased them out of their pulpit. |
| 1:54.0 | He himself was named Bishop of Gloucester, |
