I read a story recently about a school teacher who worked in the same school for 30 years.

Right, she was an art teacher, she became head of the art department,

and she was still actively teaching even as head of the

department and after 30 years she retired. Now I heard this story just in a fiction book but the story was based on a real person, a very passionate and

enthusiastic art teacher, and she had indeed worked for 30 years at the same school.

And for some reason, I was just so wrapped up and consumed in the story of this art teacher who worked at the same place for 30 years.

I thought, wow, what love and devotion

she must have to her work, to her students,

to that school, to that community.

And then I thought to myself, there would have been a day that this

art teacher packed up her paint brushes and her art supplies for the last time.

There is a class that she would have shown up to teach as she had for 30 years until that day, with it being her very last class. There would be a cup of

coffee that she makes in the staff room, the same staff room that she's frequented for 30 years,

there would be the final cup of coffee that as a staff member she enjoyed as the art teacher.

There is a moment where she left the classroom, shut the door, walked to her car, got in her car, left the car park for the very last time.

Something about that is so moving, isn't it? When you think about it?

Yeah, I thought he is, congrats retirement party, blah, retirement party blah blah blah. His may be a bottle of wine and I don't know piece of jewelry or something right? Some type of gift. Yeah retirement happens right there's nothing you know deeply unoriginal about this

but still when you think about it when you slow it down. A person gives their life to something, right? They make

their contribution and then there is a moment where it comes to an end. The last coffee, the last class, the last wrapping up of supplies, the last drive home.

I think the reason the thought of this moves me so much is because we never actually know

when it's going to be the last time, do we? And I thought to myself, I wish I could speak to that art teacher and ask
