Summary

There are more than 75,000 homeless people in L.A., costing the city more than $1.3 billion per year, with minimal improvement over the last decade. The L.A. County Board of Supervisors voted to overhaul homeless spending by redirecting the vast majority of county funding from the troubled L.A. Homeless Services Authority (LAHSA). This was a proposal from Supervisor Lindsey Horvath, so we sit down with her for a 1-on-1 to find out if this is indeed a new solution to the issue, or more of the same.

referred to as the five queens. Previously they've been known as the five kings because they were all

male. They happen to be all female. But the only reason I bring that up is because they may be the

most powerful decision makers in Los Angeles. Is that a fair assessment? There's a lot of power in

these seats, but I don't love that term because I think our job is to bring more people in and not rule

that will sort of reinvent the way that Los Angeles deals with homelessness, which is an ongoing issue.
