Walking is so good for us, but not every walk is created equal regarding the benefits.

For example, what I'm doing right now as I'm walking actually has added benefits from what I usually do,

and I'll explain in just a moment.

Welcome to Walking is Fitness, a daily podcast that provides a little extra motivation to walk

every day.

It is a beach walk today and a beautiful beach walk at that.

The sun probably popped over the horizon maybe 10 minutes ago.

I got here actually to see the sunrise, was not recording at that moment.

And it's beautiful big orange sunshine and I'm

looking east and it's over the ocean it's also over the pier there's a

pier that I'm looking at it's the spring made pier I'm in Myrtle Beach

South Carolina.

And so the sun is risen and reflecting on the Atlantic Ocean.

There are some boats out in the water.

I actually don't think these are fishing boats or private boats.

These are boats that are part of a company that takes you out so that you can do parasailing,

and that sort of thing. So they don't put those boats, at least during the summer,

they don't put those boats in a dock, they just anchor them off the beach

and then take a raft out to the boats to, I guess them well of course to use them with paying customers

so at the moment I am walking in soft sand this is a walk that is harder than if I were walking on the hard packed sand.

It's certainly harder than if I were just walking on a sidewalk or a paved trail.
