From the outside, it looked exactly as it always had.

A quiet place tucked into a neighborhood that hadn't changed much in years.

But the reason people went there had changed.

For as long as any of them could remember, the house had been tied to one person, more than anyone else.

It was where holidays happened, where birthdays were celebrated, where

people showed up without needing to call first. It carried a kind of familiarity that didn't need

to be explained. You walked in and you knew where everything was. You knew where people would be

sitting, what would be on in the background.

That was why no one had rushed to go back.

It had been a few weeks, maybe longer than it should have been, before anyone suggested spending time there again.

Not for any specific reason just to be there to keep the place from feeling abandoned.
