Are you putting people off without even realizing it?

It's very easy to do this, and I'm so happy I learned this

from Dale Carnegie as a teenager when I read his book How to Win Friends and

influence people. In that book he said that these three things all beginning

with C really put people off when they're in your company.

Okay? And it's this. Criticizing, condemning, and complaining.

This isn't to say that if something requires an improvement or if we need to speak up about something,

it doesn't mean that we're silenced and we just pretend that everything's fine, right, and we ignore any problems.

That's not what this is about.

This is about the very human tendency to be critical, right?

To condemn others, to complain, to find fault in things in situations, in people, in circumstances.

It's so invisible, it's almost like really, really sneaky, this thing that we do. You know, when we just, we start to complain,

we start to focus on what's wrong, we start showing up as the police, you know, of the world

saying, this is the right way to behave, this is the wrong way to behave, this should wrong way to behave this should be like this this shouldn't be like that

Look it doesn't mean don't have an opinion right as human beings we're supposed to be gorgeously unique in how we interpret the world and how we interpret situations.

But it's very easy to be overly critical to complain to condemn others even when we don't

know people very well and it can be extremely off putting.

So think about it this way.

If you're at a, maybe even say a barbecue at someone's house

and someone's complaining about the weather, they're complaining about the weather.

They're complaining about the food.
