I want to tell you about an emotional and an exciting event we called it,

Barry True's Live, and we held it in early May of 2023 at the first Baptist Church in Decatur,

Georgia. Since I began teaching the Georgia Civil Rights cold cases class at Emory and the fall

of 2011, 190 students have taken the class. Almost half of them took the course in the semesters

when I taught the cases of the killings of James Brasier or Willie Countryman.

As you remember, these were two black men killed by right police in the same town,

Dawson, Georgia, in the same year, 1958. The students' findings over the years

could fill a bank vault if there are such things anymore, so I knew that this would be an epic season.

And given our past live events, I thought season 4 would draw a pretty good-sized audience,

but I had no idea. 700 people registered to attend, and some 600 people showed up.
