Summary

Host Joy Brooks has gathered a group of psychotherapists from the Nomad therapy network to see how they answer questions from members of the Beloved Listener Lounge.

Considering questions such as "what makes therapy transformational?”, "what would you say to someone who was told to trust the bible not feelings?", “how can I function while feeling like I can’t live with God and can’t live without God?” and “how can I work through the effects of purity culture and toxic religious attitudes towards sex?”, we get to listen in on a Q&A with a therapeutic twist.

Q&A starts at 20m 36s

The Welcome back to Nomad podcast. I'm Tim Nash and this is my therapeutic co-host. It's Joy Brooks.

0:42.9

Hello.

0:44.0

How are you, Joy?

0:45.7

It's interesting. I knew you were going to ask this question. I'm thinking this morning, what's helpful for the beloved listener? Do they want to hear, oh yeah, all good, thanks. Or do they want to hear, well, hormonal fluctuations are making me feel tired and migrainy?

0:58.6

And then the pressures of working in the public sector that's chronically underfunded can sometimes get me down.

1:03.4

And obviously, the global picture is really quite depressing.

1:06.2

So there's a heaviness.

1:07.2

Or would it be better just to go, yeah, I'm all right.

1:09.6

What do you reckon? You're fine. Yeah, I'm fine. Yeah, I'm fine. Yeah. It's the

1:13.9

British way, isn't it? Yeah. How about you? I thought that I was suffering from imposter syndrome a few

1:19.5

minutes ago. I had that feeling like I was just kind of like a little nervous schoolboy. And I was sitting there

1:24.7

thinking, why do I feel like that? I've done this a thousand times before. It's because I'm so intimidating, isn't it? It's that. And also, I've got one of these

1:32.6

desks that kind of go up and down so that I can work standing up. And I realize that it's gone

1:37.7

kind of part of the way up. And that's why I felt like a little schoolboy. Brilliant. Imagine that somebody had been able to also raise

1:44.9

your chair so your feet weren't meet in the ground. That'll be amazing. As soon as I realized that,

1:51.3

I felt confident again. I put the desk down and all was well. Environment matters. It really does.

1:58.1

But on top of that, I'm also slightly troubled joy. I was recently recently digging through Nomad's download stats, because as you know, there's a PhD student as doing a thesis on kind of the role of podcasts in deconstruction and rethinking church and stuff.

2:11.0

And so we've been having conversations with him.

2:13.1

And he asked me for some stats.

2:15.1

So I was looking at the Nomad stats and I noticed that last month,

2:18.2

the number of downloads in your hometown of Leicester dropped by 31%. Guys, what are you doing?
