popularity as president than Theodore Roosevelt, who served from September 14, 1901 to March 4th,

1909. What was it that made him so phenomenally popular? And how was it that he failed when he tried to return to the presidency under dramatic circumstances?

That's part of this very special story in a very special broadcast of the Michael Medved show.

The music, there'll be a hot time in the old town tonight.

And Theodore Roosevelt sang that song.

Apparently, along with the other rough riders after their victory at the Battle of San Juan Hill.

And it also became the inevitable theme song of his campaign for governor when he was running for governor of New York in 1898.

And then he got tired of the song.

And he didn't want to hear it anymore.

But he couldn't help it because it was associated with him.

And everything associated with him became something of a national obsession.

There are a lot of firsts about Theodore Roosevelt.

He was the first vice president to become president to then

win a term of his own. That later happened, of course, the same thing with Calvin Coolidge and

Harry Truman and Lyndon Johnson. But Roosevelt was the first. He was, still is, the youngest man

ever to be president. He came to the White House at age 42.

President Roosevelt was a very, very different kind of president because he had a young family.
