The greenhouse gas protocol is considering revisions to emissions accounting rules.

The GHG protocol is the non-profit that manages the guidelines that almost every company uses to

calculate and report on their GHG emissions. Many of these rules are being overhauled, with a new

draft being prepared for the end of this year. If you are a clean energy

A couple of weeks before the release of this episode and a few days before we recorded it,

the Clean Energy Buyers Association and ACOR, the American Council on Renewable

Energy, both sent a letter to the GHG Protocol's Independent Standards Board, urging them to

keep some of the key rules that are being revised.

Over the last decade, close to 200 gigawatts of clean energy globally has been built tied to contracts with

voluntary buyers who are pursuing those procurements for purposes of reducing their carbon footprint.

In the U.S. alone, I think we had close to 100 gigawatts contracted in the past decade since the

creation of this protocol with almost none prior to 2015.

So it's been a fairly dramatic change.

It's been highly successful in driving voluntary demand.
