Summary

Episode 476 - When did so many people get the feeling that they "deserve" anything? The people who get the furthest in life are the ones that know that they are not owed anything and that they must work their tails off to get what they want in this life. In this episode, I dive into this topic and talk about how to get whatever it is that you want.

What I want to talk about today is the fact that the world owes you absolutely nothing.

0:47.0

I don't know what it is lately, but I was actually watching a Gary Vee podcast where he was talking about how it seems like people would need immediate gratification nowadays.

0:58.0

I thought that was 100% true because now it seems like being an entrepreneur is a cool thing. People want to be an entrepreneur.

1:06.0

Just like years ago they wanted to be firefighters and then they wanted to be astronauts. Those are cool jobs. Stock brokers or lawyers 20 years ago. That was like a cool job.

1:15.0

Now it's cool to be an entrepreneur. It's cool to say you're an entrepreneur. But in reality, being an entrepreneur a lot of times it really sucks.

1:23.0

And that's why most people can't be an entrepreneur. So in another couple of years, people are going to probably stop talking about being an entrepreneur because it's not going to be the cool thing anymore.

But what I have noticed, and people reach out to me all the time and they say, hey Rob, I want to be retired by 30 years old. I want to be retired by 35 years old by 40 years old.

1:42.0

What can I do to make a couple hundred thousand dollars this year and start my first business?

1:47.0

And the very first thought that I have is I got an idea. How about you work for six months and make zero dollars and see if it's something that you want to do and see if it's a viable business and see if you can actually make some money doing whatever it is that you want to do.

2:01.0

And people always want that immediate gratification. They feel like the world owes them something with the fact that I can pick up my phone at any second and find any information that I want to at any point in time.

2:12.0

When back in the day, I used to have to go to the library and get an encyclopedia and look it up and you'd have to go through, if you guys remember the encyclopedias, you go through and you go ABCDEFG.

2:23.0

Okay, gee, there it is. That's the encyclopedia that I need. And you look through the encyclopedia for five minutes and you go, well, that word that I need isn't in here.

2:31.0

That information that I need isn't in here. I guess I'll never know this information. That's the way the world used to be. It used to not be immediate gratification.

2:38.0

Now if I'm like, hey, I wonder how far. Actually, let's do this. Let's, if I were to just go ahead and say into my phone, you know, maybe I'm at a brunch and I go, how far is the sun from the earth?

2:52.0

The sun is 92.96 million miles from earth.

2:58.0

Like you can find that out that quickly by me just talking to my phone. Like it didn't used to be that way. So people are so used to immediate gratification that they can know anything that they possibly want.

3:09.0

They can know anything at all. Let's see if, let's see if, if Google knows this though.
