Join Carl Raymond, host of the Gilded Gentleman podcast,

and Lindsay Parrott of the Newstart collection of Tiffany Glass at the Queen's Museum,

as they chat about the life and legacy of Louis Comfort Tiffany,

one of the most influential designers of decorative arts in American history.

Just the name conjures images of the elegance and style of the gilded age,

and that elegance has certainly carried over into the present day. A gift, whether a matrimonial diamond or something special for any celebration from Tiffany and company nestled in its signature

robin's egg blue box and with that ribbon that I still can't quite retie myself, well, that

means something to be remembered for all time. But there is much behind the story of the great

Tiffany name and its contribution to American style and design.

It began, of course, with the retail shop of Charles Lewis Tiffany back in 1837, which evolved into what we see today.

But there were two Tiffany's. It was Charles' son, Louis Comfort Tiffany, who created the great empire in glass from lamps to some of America's

most magnificent stained glass windows, as well as an entirely new philosophy of interior decor and

design. Both Louis and his father Charles were both visionaries not only in how basic materials

like silver and glass

could be transformed into new forms of art, but as highly skilled and modern entrepreneurs

guiding and evolving vast teams of artisans to bring their own visions and talents to

artwork ultimately stamped with the Tiffany name. In this show, I am joined by Lindsay Parrott, the executive director of the Newstott

Collection, one of the country's most significant and important collections of Tiffany Glass.

Lindsay and I will delve into the story, which contains many stunning pieces,

and attempt to assemble them like a mosaic

with the care and vision of any great Tiffany work of art.
