I'm doing great, Matt. Get your tinfoil hat out because this is a good conspiracy theory episode and who doesn't love a good conspiracy theory? I know I love it.

Exactly. It's got conspiracies, true crime, all that stuff. It's a story about the Jules Remy trophy, which was the original trophy that was presented to World Cup winners and how it was stolen out of a bulletproof enclosure in Brazil back in 1983.

There have actually been a number of different trophies, Matt, that have been stolen throughout the history of sports. I mean, the Stanley Cup comes to mind, which might be the most famous trophy, at least here in the States.

But it does feel appropriate that there is some sort of controversy when it comes to soccer and this World Cup trophy.

In Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, a few days before Christmas in 1983, people weren't in an especially festive mood.

The military dictatorship had recently collapsed, and the majority of the country was suffering in extreme poverty.

Officials were corrupt, the government profited off the backs of the people, and no one trusted each other. Nothing was sacred.

Except soccer.

Brazilians lived for soccer. It was their greatest source of national pride. Not only was the country home to the greatest player of all time, Pele, but it was also the only country to have won the World Cup three times.

After that victory 13 years earlier, Brazil had been given the original World Cup trophy to keep forever, an honor that no one could take away from them, no matter how bad things got.

Until the night of December 19, 1983, when the original World Cup trophy was stolen out of its bulletproof case.

And Brazil's greatest pride was never seen again.
