I joined by Steve Saruti, Steve how you doing? I'm doing great. I'm talking a little bit about the

94 World Cup in the USA. Let's go. Yeah man we're throwing it way back to the classic World Cup

USA in 94. Really the first World Cup that I really properly remember I was 11 for this one

and we're going to be talking about Ireland versus Italy played in the great state of New Jersey

under the hot boiling sun at Giant Stadium and we're going to be talking about a towering

defensive display from a man who had no knees. Ooh a palm of grass Steve. Yeah I'm looking back

at the box score for this one Matt. This is the 94 Italian team. I mean some of the greatest

player Italian players or just players of all time. You've got Maldini, you've got Roberto Baggio,

somehow they lost to this Irish team. Tell me about what's going on here. Yeah Paul McGrawman.

I mean McGraw is a fascinating player. One of the classiest defenders you're ever going to see.

He could do it all. He was fast. He was physical and he could really play but there was a couple

of problems with McGraw. His knees, both of his knees left right knee. He didn't have either of them

but by this point in 94 McGraws later on in his career and his body is beginning to let him down.

So the man has no knees. The man also had quite a lot of vices. His autobiography which Steve

recommend reading is one of the sort of classics of the genre. He's very frank about his battles

with alcoholism and that had a big impact on his career. This is one of the most talented players

you've ever seen and yet he only spent a limited time playing in the higher echelons of the

English game. But in this day, against all the odds Paul McGraw put in one of the absolute

towering defensive displays. When we look back at the classic performances of footballers,

we think of the strikers who scored goals. We think of Maradona and the goal of the century.
