We are going to begin a series on the words of Jesus.

Jesus speaking directly to you and me through the scriptures.

I believe it's going to be life-changing.

So glad to spend this time together with you.

We are going to explore what the Lord said, the red letters, if you have a red letter edition of the New Testament.

We're going to explore the riches of his words.

We're going to dig into his words.

We're going to start with the sermon on the Mount.

But first, the question, there are some teachers, born again

teachers, people who love the word of God, who love Jesus as Savior and Redeemer, who actually

say that his words are not directly applicable to believers today.

They say that they are really part of the old covenant because the new covenant is only instituted with the cross.

So what Jesus said after the cross, that applies directly to us as believers today.

But what's before the cross would really be like Old Testament

verses that were spoken to Israel to the Jewish people and then have to be applied with

wisdom until today.

And that if you just take the words of Jesus at face value, say the sermon on the Mount,

you'll find it very condemning.

You'll find it brings you to a place of hopelessness.

And they say that was the purpose of it.
