This week on Teachers Off Duty, Bri is joined by Dre Holmes and Juan Cintron for a chaotic, painfully relatable conversation about attention getters and how wildly different they look in kindergarten vs. 3rd grade vs. middle school. From "waterfall" to "macaroni and cheese, everybody freeze," to the most dramatic strategies you've ever seen (yes, including fake crying and talking to a filing cabinet), the crew breaks down what actually works when your class is doing the absolute most.

They also get real about the teaching grind: ADHD teacher life, why "I'll wait" doesn't always hit, building relationships before management can work, and how admin can make or break a school. Plus: tour life updates and why you need a laugh break ASAP.

Do you use attention getters?

0:02.0

Yeah. Mine are a bit ghetto. Like songs, like calling responses to all be like, this ain't Texas. And they were like, woo. Oh. Yo, that had a choke cold on my school. Everybody, water falls. Nothing I learned in college as far as like classroom management and things. Like it did not work. And you actually went to school for education. Me and you were both alternate route. I would have to write, like, 20 to 25 pages of lesson plays. To do what with? Well, I was student teaching at the time. Oh, my gosh, we don't have that much class time. Sometimes I'll play dad. The kindergartners love it. Oh no. Dementstration.
