Let's open the Word of God together again, shall we, to the book of Genesis.

We're studying the life of this great man of faith, Abraham.

And this morning, I really concentrated with you in Genesis chapter number 15,

this whole emphasis on believing.

And I wonder, what will you believe God for this week? Now listen to me, what will you believe God for this week? Now listen to me,

what will you believe God for this week? Faith should never be past tense, not if he is a present tense God. What will this church believe God for this year? There's always something to believe him for. But the story of Abraham

does not start in Genesis 15, and it doesn't end in Genesis 15. Matter of fact, just for fun,

let me show you something. Turn back to Genesis chapter 12. This is where the story really begins.

Now the Lord had said unto Abram, get thee out of thy country and from my

kindred and from my father's house unto a land that I will show thee. And the verses that follow in this

great Abrahamic covenant, you have the I wills of God. I love the fact that Abrams life was not

about what Abram did. Abrams life was about what God

did. We're not having a meeting. We're not having a meeting to say do better. We're not having a

meeting to say do more. We're not having a meeting to say be somebody. We're having a meeting to say, God is God and we are not.

Let's let the Lord do in our lives what the Lord wants to do in our lives. And, of course,

the Lord says, I will do that. Show you something really interesting. If you back up one chapter

from that, look what Genesis 11 is. Genesis 11 is the story of the Tower of Babel. Isn't it interesting that the story of

Abraham begins right on the heels and in direct contrast to the story of what happened at the Tower of

Babel? I think we're living in a world that's returning to Babel right now. We're returning to confusion and

chaos. Why is that? Because we've returned to pride and our own way. And this is thrilling to me.
