Summary

From the series "Gospel of Matthew." Jesus confronts hypocrisy in church leaders and calls his followers to a different way. In a time when deconstruction is the cultural tide we swim in and disillusionment with pastors is widespread and well-earned, there is a lot we can learn from Jesus.

0:17.1	through the life of Jesus. And when you arrive, let's stand together for the
0:24.5	reading of Scripture, you at home as well, I invite you to stand.
0:32.5	Matthew chapter 23 verse 1,
0:38.5	God, we open our heart like soil that is thirsty for the rain and the seed and the sun.
0:53.5	We open to the spirit and the truth of Jesus. Come spirit and come truth.
1:02.5	Let us bear fruit 30, 60 or even 100 fold.
1:08.5	Matthew 23, then Jesus said to the crowds and to his apprentices,
1:15.5	the rabbis or the teachers of the Torah and the Pharisees sit in Moses' seat.
1:21.5	So you must be careful to do everything they tell you.
1:27.5	But do not do what they do, for they do not practice what they preach.
1:35.5	They tie up heavy, cumbersome loads and put them on other people's shoulders,
1:42.5	but they themselves are not willing to lift a finger to move them.
1:47.5	Everything they do is done for people to see.
1:51.5	They make their factories wide and the tassels on their garments long.
1:56.5	They love the place of honor at banquets and the most important seats at the synagogues.
2:02.5	They love to be greeted with respect in the marketplaces and to be called rabbi by others,
2:08.5	but you are not to be called rabbi.
2:11.5	For you have one teacher and you are all brothers.
2:16.5	I do not call anyone on earth father, for you have one father and he is in heaven.
2:23.5	Nor are you to be called instructors for you have one instructor, the Messiah.
2:30.5	The greatest among you will be your servant.
