| 0:58.8 | of a recession. At that very moment, Washington pundits began talking about what a great week |
| 1:06.4 | President Joe Biden was having. I mean, it just seemed so odd. And they minute sincerely, |
| 1:12.0 | not ironically. I mean, they weren't saying when they said he's having a really great week, |
| 1:17.9 | they didn't really mean he's having a disastrous week. They mean he's having a great week. |
| 1:22.8 | So, why was it a great week? Well, there were two reasons, according to the new conventional |
| 1:29.6 | wisdom. One, the Senate passed a bill that provides billions of dollars in subsidies to the |
| 1:37.2 | semiconductor industry. Now, depending on where you are politically here, conservatives denounced |
| 1:43.9 | that bill as a pork laden handout to big business. They went after the 16 Republicans in the Senate |
| 1:51.0 | and the 24 Republicans in the House who voted for the bill. So it was bipartisan. But conservatives |
| 1:56.8 | were really very upset about it. And it does seem to be just filled pork. Biden, though, |
| 2:03.4 | had unanimous democratic support. That tells you something about the partisan nature of the bill. |
