Yesterday afternoon, the schooner C. Nymph, Captain Fake, arrived in port and reported having spoken to the ship Ellen Southerd from Hong Kong.

The Ellen Southerd was flying a flag of distress, and it was discovered

that Captain Howe, her master, had died on the 6th of May, and the vessel was in charge of his wife.

The Ellen Southerd is 67 days from her port clearance, by no means a long passage, but the passengers

have for some time been on a short allowance of water. There were 400 Chinamen aboard, and these

had threatened to murder the crew as soon as their water, which was only three-day supply left,
