Hello, everybody, and welcome to this week's edition of the late sub it is wednesday april ninth i am your host

clare watkins and we are back no i promise that we're going to have a little bit of housekeeping

we're going to figure it out cadence and topics the new late sub for 2025 we're going to be in your

ears weekly every single week and we are talking soccer that That is my background. I've been covering the

NWSL and the US Women's National team for going on frankly almost 10 years now. And we're

going to be doing some deep dives into what the US women's national team is up to, what the

NWSL is up to players, coaches, GMs, movement, great performances, maybe a few flops. We shall see. I'm so excited to be

bringing the late sub back to y'all. And what a week to do it because we have a lot to talk about

on the international stage for the U.S. Women's National Team. So what better time to take a beat,

take a moment and check in on the state of the u.s women's national team where they just played

late last night in san jose lots of big picture points we're not going to get to in the weeds with

anything so i do want to take a look at kind of the last two international windows where the team is

at i've kind of broken it down into a couple big picture segments that I think are sort of where

my mind is at when I look at sort of the full swath of what the team is doing. Just kind of

to state it at the very beginning, this is going to be a theme throughout. This team is young.

This team is inexperienced. It was the least capped team since 2001 on the pitch last night against Brazil.

It is a team not expected necessarily to win all the time. They did not win against Brazil last night.

They've got two losses in their last three games. We'll talk about that a little bit more in-depth later.
