First of all, happy holidays.

I wanted to say we do a lot of different things in this show.

We dive into all different genres, all different eras, and I'm especially grateful to everyone who sticks with us through all of it.

I know there's a bunch of you out there.

So because it's the holidays, wanted to do something a little special.

Last year we talked about some of the greatest holiday songs and

a long December by Count and Croes came up. I know that the writer Stephen Haydn a friend of the

pod also did a piece last year arguing that a long December is in fact the single greatest holiday song and it is I have to say an absolute

Classic it's from the band's second album recovering the satellites from 1996 which I was always fond of.

In general I would say an underrated and

misunderstood American band, but I really get the sense that a long

December in particular has been rising in people's estimation, rising as a key song of this month and this season.

So for this episode we were joined by none other than Counting Crow's frontman Adam

Durrets, who was kind enough to go deeper than ever before into the making of long December.

And we kind of used that song as a springboard into his whole career, which was a really interesting way to do an interview.

It's a really great conversation and I'm happy to bring it to you right now.

We talked about whether Long December counts as a holiday song. I think it does that it fits with the

season in its own way. I think there's this big discussion that runs around with

everybody trying to is die-hard a Christmas movie. Exactly.

I don't know if it takes place during December

and in fact it takes place during Christmas.
