He's been investigating the origins of the far-right militant that carried out the 2019 Christchurch mass shooting.

51 people were killed in the attack on two mosques.

At least three of the dead were children.

The shooter is, of course, a total monster,

and Watson has dug up some information on his past

that reveals what led him down this path

and who might have helped him.

Tell us about the work you've been doing that has led up to your new project.

Kind of tell us how you got into this and what you've been doing.

Yeah, so when Christchurch happened, I mean, I was a young journalist.

I was 22 at the time,

and I was starting to see that the far right or the rise of the far right was going to become kind of one of the most important stories of our time.

We'd had things like Charlottesville.

There was evidence that far right groups were becoming far more transnational than we'd seen for a very long time, if not possibly
