So we talked a few episodes ago about deaths of despair, alcoholism, drug overdose, suicide. Now,

alcohol and drug addiction and overdose.

There's kind of an explanation there, right? When somebody overdoses on drugs or drinks

themselves to death, you can kind of say, well, they were addicted to this substance, went down

that road. But suicide from an external perspective is harder to understand if you don't have,

if you can't connect to it, right? There's no, there's no, it's a lot harder to point at something

and say, well, there's the reason why. Maybe you can point at a thousand things and say,

these are the reasons why. But it's much harder, I guess, to explain away a suicide. And yet,

it happens all the time. I mean, everyone, I would say, is impacted by it at some point in their

lives. I know I have been, I've known people that have killed themselves. I know you've been,

you've been exposed at even more personal level in your own family. And the current status of the

world, September 11th right now, 2020, current status of the world with COVID and lockdown and

political chaos and civic unrest, these things to put it lightly do not seem to be helping

on the suicide front. What, what, what is happening right now? What are you seeing?

Well, the first thing I wanted to do to give everybody an idea of why we decided to come back to

this topic, it was me who kind of insisted that we return to it after we just touched on it recently.

Was a report put out by the CDC Center for Disease Control on suicide and other issues? And I

just want to go over some statistics because they are mind blowing if you really think through

their implications. This is from the report. Among 5,470 people surveyed in the last week of June,

30.9% reported symptoms of an anxiety or depressive disorder, 30 to 0.9%. 25.3%.
