Today we'll be interviewing the president and CEO of the Children's Defense Fund,

Dr. Starski Wilson. But before we get to Starski, I wanted to talk about the recent

tragic mass murder that happened this week in Atlanta and the rise of hate crimes in this

country that have been directed at Asian Americans. In case you missed it

on Tuesday evening eight people including six Asian women were shot and killed in a

rampage in Atlanta. The shooter Robert Long was white. In Permister Long's accounts of the shootings, they weren't

racially motivated. He described the massage parlors as temptation that he wanted to eliminate and he had plans to head to Florida as a part of a plot to

attack the porn industry.

It's also alleged unsurprisingly that Mr Long has visited these spas before.

Now there was a rush from the media and from law enforcement in Atlanta

to not classify this as a racially motivated hate crime.

That despite the fact that this guy clearly targeted Asian women because if

this was truly about sex workers there are black ones and white ones in

Atlanta as well they weren't killed on Tuesday only the Asian ones died and I guess we're supposed to think that's coincidental

Look y'all the fetishization of Asian women isn't new and it's racist and when it's mixed with violent white extremism and misogyny you get this so call

it is it's a hate crime it's misogyny is sexual violence and if we're honest the

women that were killed were likely trafficked and so if we're going to

never see this kind of event again we've got to tackle sex trafficking and the

possible legalization of sex work that and most obviously easy access to handguns for domestic

terrorists. As much as some may want to wish the obvious racial implications

away on just about every issue, the white supremacist keep making it harder for some of y'all to just
