Summary
In this episode, Austin and Kelly introduce The Uncool Collective - a movement built for parents who are tired of the pressure, the perfectionism, and the nonstop comparison that comes with raising kids in a digital world. They break down why they started it, what inspired the mission, and how they’re creating a community for families who want a simpler, healthier, more connected childhood for their kids. From social-media-free childhood to mental health, boundaries, and real-life parenting moments, this episode explains everything listeners can expect from The Uncool Collective and how they can join the movement.

| 0:00.0 | Welcome back to Mama Mystery. |
| 0:10.5 | I am your host, Kelly. |
| 0:12.7 | And I am your co-host, Austin. |
| 0:15.5 | And today's episode is going to be a little bit different. |
| 0:18.7 | We are shifting gears a little bit, but let me tell you, |
| 0:21.6 | if you are a parent, you're going to want to listen to this episode. And if you have a kid with a |
| 0:26.1 | smartphone, you may want them to listen to this as well, but I will let you decide that for |
| 0:30.3 | yourself. So a few months ago, I wrote a Facebook post about how discouraging it can be as a parent |
| 0:36.6 | today, especially when so many kids |
| 0:38.9 | have phones and no limits on how they use them. Our oldest kids are 11 and 12 years old, and nearly |
| 0:45.5 | all of their friends already have phones. And on those phones, they are on everything. They're texting |
| 0:51.2 | nonstop. They're on Snapchat, Instagram, TikTok, Roblox, you name it. At our |
| 0:57.6 | house, we do have a phone. It's technically an iPhone, but it's a home phone. The kids can use it |
| 1:02.9 | if we are gone and they need to reach us or if they're out with friends and might need a ride or |
| 1:07.2 | something, but otherwise their use on it is very limited. We just call it the kids phone, and it's got a shared phone that we limit. Yeah, and we keep it in our room. So they have to ask if they want to use it. They have to ask if they want to check up on the texts or whatever. Because I don't want the kids texting at 10 o'clock at night, you know, or free for all with the phone at nine o'clock. |
| 1:28.6 | Exactly. There's no social media on the phone. There's no games. It's literally just texting and it has |
| 1:34.3 | the capability to like FaceTime with their friends within reason though. We do have limits. |
| 1:39.3 | But just yesterday in the span of like two hours, one of the group texts had over 200 messages in it |
| 1:46.5 | and there was another time that I opened up the phone and there was like 400 yeah nearly 500 |
| 1:52.1 | I think it was like 490 something messages and it was the other day when I looked it was just |
| 1:57.7 | drama it was girls fighting they over things that don't even make sense. |
| 2:02.0 | It's all just nonsense. |
