Before we begin tonight's season 3 retrospective, I wanted to mention the very sad news,

that Carol Sailing, the wife of Rod Sailing, and the mother of Anne and Jodie Sailing passed away on the 9th of January 2020. Of course this was a very private time for the family

and then Anne Sailing made the announcement on the 13th of January. Now tonight's episode was

recorded before that announcement and does have quite a jovial celebratory tone to her,

and I did pause for a moment and wonder about adding this sad message to the beginning of it.

But then I considered the life that Carol Sailing lived.

Before Rod passed away, she was his companion, his collaborator, his advisor and his critic, and she was the opinion he could trust. And after his passing, she carried the torch for the Twilight Zone and his work.

Now the Sailing Estate didn't have the television rights to the Twilight Zone anymore,

but Carol continued it in many different ways through her work

with Twilight Zone magazine and many Twilight Zone books which credit her as the editor, and this

gave other writers the honour and the thrill of having their work published under the Twilight Zone

name. So the Twilight Zone wasn't just Rod's legacy,

it was Carol's 2. So she spent her life celebrating Rod Serling and the Twilight Zone,

so I think a show with a jovial and celebratory tone is just the right thing to remember her and celebrate her life too.

So rest in peace, Carol Sailing, and thank you.
