But it definitely was the journey of my guest tonight. When he stepped in front

of the camera to play Mike Ferris in the first episode of the Twilight Zone, where is everybody,

he had no way of knowing that what at that time was another job for a hardworking actor

was actually a walk into the history books.

I don't think I can describe how happy I am to welcome the great Earl Holliman

to the Twilight Zone podcast.

But although this is the Twilight Zone podcast going into this interview,

I wanted to speak to Elle about more than just the Twilight Zone. What got him there? What else had he

done? Because this is a man who stood shoulder to shoulder with the likes of James Dean, John Wayne, Dean Martin,

and the list goes on and on because he is an actor who landed in the Golden Age of Hollywood

and took hold of every opportunity he got with both hands. Now when I spoke to Elle about setting up this interview,

I don't want to embarrass him in case he listens to this,

but he mentioned a couple of things to me.

He said, you know, sometimes when I get caught up in telling a story,

I'll tell it for a while.

But also, I'm 91 years old,

and some details, names and things will escape me from time to time.

So that's all completely understandable.

But when we did the interview, I can only describe Earl's recall as astonishing.

He's referring to names, he's talking about places and dates and even conversations that happened over 60 years ago, and they roll off his tongue like they happened yesterday.
