#323: Nothing is more impactful to our ability as women to create our own luck than the journey of motherhood—how we embark on it, and when. That's why I sat down with Dr. Catha Fischer, reproductive endocrinologist and Medical Director at Spring Fertility, for this critical bonus episode to demystify reproductive health, fertility, and the power of reproductive autonomy.
We dive into what every woman in her 20s and 30s needs to know, from understanding your menstrual cycle (which Dr. Fischer calls your "fifth vital sign") to the truth about how birth control impacts your fertility, and what egg freezing actually entails. This is an honest, judgment-free conversation about removing the shame around fertility and making informed, empowered choices for your future.

| 0:00.0 | The following podcast is a Dear Media production. |
| 0:12.0 | Welcome back to She's So Lucky. My name is Les. I'm your host. And today we have a special bonus episode. If you're watching this episode, the day it drops, it's a special Friday |
| 0:21.1 | bonus for a very important conversation. So if you're familiar with this show, you know that we talk |
| 0:26.2 | about the different ways that women create their own luck. We often talk about this from the perspective |
| 0:31.0 | of business and career and mindset, but the reality is for a lot of women, nothing is more impactful to your ability |
| 0:39.0 | to create your own luck than motherhood, how you embark on it, when you embark on it, |
| 0:44.0 | what your support system looks like once you embark on it. So I'm really excited to bring an |
| 0:48.6 | important conversation about fertility and reproductive health to the show today. And I am joined by Dr. Catha Fisher, who is the medical director at Spring Fertility based in New York City, which is today's partner for this episode. So please join me in welcoming Dr. Fisher. Hi, so happy to be here. I'm so happy to have you. We were having a good key keep before we started. We're just going to keep the good time We'll just keep it rolling. It's fine. Absolutely. Absolutely. So as I mentioned, you know, I really feel like |
| 1:15.6 | reproductive autonomy is such a big factor in women's ability to create their own luck. When we think |
| 1:21.8 | about our health outcomes, when we think about financial outcomes and quality of life, it's so important. And so I think because |
| 1:29.5 | motherhood is such a big important topic, having our audience really understand what all of their |
| 1:34.9 | options are as they embark on that area of life is so important. And I know that that's such a big |
| 1:40.1 | part of the work that you do. So I'm really excited to talk more about it. Me too. I think knowing things and really educating yourself on your fertility is critical, truly making your own luck and being in control of that and having a lot of decisional autonomy. So I'm so happy to be here talking to your audience about this. Most definitely. So our audience, we have a good mix of Gen Z and millennial. So most of our audiences between, I would say, the ages of like |
| 2:02.2 | 25 to 40, which probably the perfect age to be listening to this conversation. If somebody is |
| 2:08.4 | curious about what is happening from a reproductive standpoint, what do you recommend are the |
| 2:13.5 | first steps that they take to have a better understanding of their reproductive health? |
| 2:16.9 | Such an important question. And here's the most challenging thing about reproductive health is fertility is not something you can actually assess, which is always like mind blowing. Problem with fertility is you don't know if you're going to have a struggle until you've actually tried. And most of our planners, we're trying to plot our life and plot our luck. So the way to really get a sense of your reproductive health |
| 2:35.1 | or fertility is to actually do something kind of annoying, which is you have to track your menstrual |
| 2:39.0 | cycles. Your regular cycle is going to be the fifth vital sign. And so what every woman needs |
| 2:44.6 | to conceive is just that. It doesn't have to be the same day every single month, but a cycle has to be |
| 2:49.0 | between 21 days and 35 days. And the challenge for most women, especially in that demographic, is we have no idea. We're on contraception. We have IUDs. We birth and triples. We have no sense of this really important kind of vital sign. And so if any of your audience members are thinking about, hey, am I a good candidate for fertility preservation? Do I have something to worry about, you know, what's happening here? It's actually kind of trying to take a contraceptive holiday, which I hate to recommend, especially in this day and age, but the only way to get a sense of your cycles is to see what's going on. And the challenges with birth control pills, a common misconception is that you're having a period. You're not. You're having a hormonal withdrawal. |
| 3:25.2 | So so often when come to me and say, well, I have read their cycles, I'm like, you have no |
