So one of my core policy planks in this campaign as many of you will know is to eliminate race-based affirmative action in America.

0:16.0

There's a lot of reasons for that.

0:18.0

Merit is near and dear to my heart.

I think that yes, it is an anti-Maritocratic policy in America that stops the best person from necessarily

getting that job, getting that promotion, getting that spot in college or at the local prep school.

But that's not the only thing that's wrong with it. I think a big part of what's wrong with affirmative action in America

0:39.0

is that it also teaches black children that they can't achieve something on their own, that they need a

special leg up. And yes, it is true that the country has suffered a history of racial injustice

dating back to its founding, but at a certain

0:55.3

point if you don't move on from that you're going to keep running into the same

a two-parent household and a big part of the problem was actually Linden Johnson's great society that first of all created the incentives for the dissolution of the two-parent household that created incentives for mothers to be single as single mothers

1:36.7

rather than to have a father in the house, but also what Lyndon Johnson did as part of that same vision

1:41.4

was implement affirmative action through executive order.

1:44.1

Well what did he say? He said that if you're going to do business with the federal government,

1:47.1

then you have to adopt these race-based quota systems if you're a government contractor.

1:50.9

Today that covers over 20% of the US workforce. I'll tell

1:54.2

you something about myself. I did go to a private Jesuit high school from 9th

through 12th grade but until then first through 8th grade I went to not that grade of a public school I'll be
