27-year-old Bern Gareka and his 22-year-old Beyoncé Andrea Sherp are found shot to death

next to a remote road.

The couple hailed from West Germany and had been hitchhiking through Canada and a non-identified

man driving a pickup truck is seen using Andrea's travelers' checks in the days following

your death.

Six years later, a suspect named Andy Rose is charged with a crime based on testimony

from a former friend who claims she heard him confessed to the murders.

After two trials and two overturned convictions, the charges against Andy are dropped when

DNA testing excludes him as the perpetrator, but no one else has ever charged with killing

the bird and Andrea.

I'm your host Robin Warder and since we released our special update episode last week,

this will officially be our first episode of 2023 that covers an unsolved cold case,

the 1983 murders of Bern Gareka and Andrea Sherp.

We're going to start off the year by traveling back to our podcast Home Country of Canada

and while we've already covered a number of cold cases from here, this will be the

first time we've done a Canadian wrongful conviction story.
