March 13, 1977.

Dunian, Florida.

The body of 54-year-old Robert Gershall has found on the floor of his bedroom with a fatal

gunshot wound at the chest.

A shotgun is resting on the bed, and investigators believe that Robert used his big toe to pull

the trigger and shoot himself so they rule his death to be a suicide.

Sixteen years later, one of Robert's sons receives an anonymous letter from someone

who says they are dying and want to confess to Robert's murder.

Even though the Gershall's learned about a potential suspect who might be the writer,

the authorities refuse to reclassify Robert's death as a homicide so the actual circumstances

of how he was killed remain unknown.

For that, the trail went cold.

I'm your host Robin Warner, and this week we're going to be covering a strange and rather

overlooked case about a suspicious suicide which is once featured on Unsaw Mysteries,

the unexplained 1977 death of Robert Gershall.

So as I'm sure you probably know, the third season of the Unsaw Mysteries reboot was

released on Netflix last month, and one of their episodes covered the 2013 death of a

man-need Patrick Mullins, who supposedly killed himself with a self-inflicted shotgun

blast while out boating in Tampa Bay, Florida.

But of course there were enough suspicious discrepancies to make his family believe he

was the victim of foul play.
