And I'm Liz Hull. Today on the podcast, Jamie Varley gives his version of what happened the day Preston died.

He said Preston was violently sick and collapsed after he pulled him out of the bath.

He denied inventing this story and was adamant he did not lie to John McGowan for Zachalley

about what happened that day.

He said he wasn't capable of doing what he's accused of to his adopted son.

He also described John McGowan for Zachily as a good dad, who never mistreated Preston,

but he said he wasn't there the day he died, so he couldn't know what happened.

But he admitted he didn't mention to him that Preston had a seizure that day,

or show him the footage of that seizure that he'd filmed on Snapchat.

He also said the couple had not been given time to grieve after the death of their son.

Music divided. We'll be back in a second. Welcome back. Liz and I are recording this on Tuesday morning. Now, the court had a day off yesterday. They also get the bank holidays off, like many people. So what we've got today is everything that happened at the end of last week, which was really busy. And that's because Jamie Varley was still in the witness box giving evidence in his own

defence. Now, when we brought you the episode on Friday, effectively, we'd got up to by that

point the day that Preston died. So July the 27th,

2023. And Jamie Varley had essentially been taken through the four months from when Preston

came to live with him and John McGowan for Zachaly in April, 23. By that point, of course, Preston was 10 months old,

and he'd lived with Sandra and Paul Cooper, who were his foster carers, from being just a few days

old. He said, settling down and becoming a teacher and a father were the only things that

mattered to him. He said
