I have entitled my talk The Test of Love.

And I want to read you a little story that I came across not very long ago.

Story about a man who believed that God was calling him to leave everything and go

with him into the desert.

His name was Carlo Carretto.

And the Lord said to him, it is not your acts and deeds that I want but your prayer and

your love.

And so very tired, Carlo found shade underneath a rock having walked some distance in the

desert.

He had with him a bag of food, two blankets and a tripod for a fire.

The evening before he laid down, he laid one of the blankets on the sand and rolled

up another one for pillow and lay down for a rest.

And I thought about the fact that the evening before he had been in a small village of
