What a Tuesday this turned out to be.

The Pittsburgh Steelers did what many believed they'd never do.

Fire a coach in season.

The news came down swift and strong Tuesday morning just before 9 a.m. as the Steelers

announced the firing of offensive coordinator Matt Canada ending a two and a half year

tenure in the position. You never want to celebrate someone losing their job, especially in

this profession. It stinks for Canada, especially two days ahead of a holiday, his family, and everyone close to him.

It's a very tough time.

That said, it was the necessary decision for the Steelers moving forward. One that quite honestly probably should

have been done earlier in the season. The Canada tenure in Pittsburgh, to put it

bluntly, was awful.

Pittsburgh never had a 400-yard game offensively,

had just one 300-yard passing game.

Scored 30 points or more in a game just twice, both in losses and the offense was consistently

near the bottom of the league in every statistical category. You cannot play like that in today's game. That was never more obvious than in

week 11 against the Cleveland Browns. Add in the fact that second year

quarterback Kenny Pickett looked worse than a rookie making his second

start and has been in the midst of a serious regression in the last month or so,

something had to happen in Pittsburgh.

The Steelers, to their credit, did what many believed they never would.
